How has my writing changed? Improved? Did I learn anything? I think so. The blogging competition has taught me about writing, current events and topics, and so much more. Here’s where I’ll start…

Writing – The word that scares many fourth, eighth, and twelfth graders. The blogging competition has drastically improved my writing and my own style of writing paragraphs, essays, and comments. I have added doses of verbs and vocabulary I never would have thought to mix in before. These attributes have added spice to my writing and made it a little more interesting for the reader to read.

Current Events and Topics – Do you know how many teens watch the news. Not that many including myself. By looking at the subjects and details of certain events, people, and places, posted by Ms. Wyatt I have learned that much more. For example, I have learned that 2008 is the International Year of the Potato. Imagine that! That reminded me that Idaho is the Home of the Potato, which leads to even more fun facts! I gained a general understanding of many issues

·        Politics

·        Recycling

·        The Environment

·        International Issues

·        The list is endless!

So basically, the blogging competition has been a good thing for me and many other students and teachers. I would like to thank Ms. Wyatt, Mrs. Waters, and Ms. Finklestein! Thank you all! And good night everybody!

POTATOES! That’s what this post is about! The International Year of the Potato. Isn’t t5hat cool? A year dedicated to the variety of vegetables we call potatoes. To your upper left, you will see a picture of several blue potatoes through the use of dieing and mutation. I found this to be really cool because I have always wanted to visit Idaho, home of the potato.

RECYCLE!

I just can’t get enough of it! It’s everywhere – school, home, Publix – everywhere. At school we have a project where we have to recycle each and every week. At home we recycle everything that we can and try to conserve energy and water and so forth. Plastics bags, Coke bottles, it doesn’t matter, because the Earth is important and we need to save it.

As most of you know, All Hallows Eve is just around the corner.(Halloween for all you guessing what I just said) Every year, we dress up in freaky or scary costumes and go around Trick-Or-Treating and scaring everyone we pass. For example dressing up as these murderous may hems: Scream, Michael Myers, and Jigsaw. Or perhaps a more traditional costume. Such as a vampire, angel, devil, witch, zombie, skeleton, or even a ham( Yes, I am talking about a cured ham ). Perhaps my favorite image of Halloween would be the Grim Reaper. With his scythe he creeps in the shadows and wanders through cemeteries. On Halloween night I put on my costume and walk around my neighborhood, gathering as much candy as I can. Then I throw out the candy I don’t like and store the stuff I do.

Hanami((花見, Hanami? lit. “flower viewing”)) is the ever so famous flower festival that takes place all over Japan.

Many of the flowers that bloom are Cherry Blossoms(Sakura) and Ume Blossoms(Ume). What a wonder it would be to see all of these beautiful flowers blooming! This festival takes place in April and is also known as the Cherry Blossom Festival. Many people have picnics and is one of the most popular spring festivals!

“Which blogs do I enjoy visiting the most?” That is certainly a hard question. I would have to say…

1. Mugglenet: This is a site that I visit daily. Here you can get the latest on anything and everything Harry Potter, or Harry Potter-ish. If you have viewed my About Me ^^ Page, then you can see that I am a Harry Potter Fan.

2. SCRIBBLER: This fantastic webiste is perfect for any type of artist. You simply draw whatever it is you feel like in the drawing pad, then hit Start Scribbler and WHAM! Instant scribbles

3. Pearlh: One of the best blogs I have ever seen. I can’t get enough out of seeing her dancing pirate avatar every time I go.

“What is poverty?” Many people would say it’s being poor. Others could even state that it’s when you’re homeless. To me, it’s a combination of those things. Poverty is one of the world’s top growing problems. It’s everywhere, the United States, Europe, Asia, etc. etc. Are there ways to fight it? Yes, and here’s how. You would agree that an educated person would get a well-paid job college. But, how can you do that if you don’t have an education? In today’s society, having an education is one of the most important aspects of your life.

In other countries that have some form of education, it’s  not what you see here in most parts of the United States. Most schools do not provide the education that we do and don’t have the materials that require it. There are numerous organizations that collect school supplies such as- pencils, pens, paper, scisscors, and school clothes. Others have fundraisers to help support the schools and do drives, car washes, and selling items. Becuase of natural disasters like hurricanes, tsunamis, and floods, many schools are forced to shut down and students are left without a school bulding, and teachers to teach. Various people try to raise money so that they can rebuild those schools and improve them. We hope that in the near future, poverty will decrease, and jobs and employment increase. Be here next week for another exciting post! ^^

“Where do you live?” I reside near the refuge for alligators, burrowing owls, and egrets. Close to where the waves flow freely across the sand. If you have not guessed it already its the vast region of sunyy, sunny South Florida. Here you can view a map of it and its various counties. South Florida is rife with panthers, oranges, and celebrities! One must-see is the Everglades. Who needs Disney and Sea World, when you have nature!

Moving on to the subject of school, here are some of my favorite subjects and such!

  • History [ Geography, World, and U.S.]
  • Language Arts [ The hardest of them all]
  • Geometry [ Shapes, & conditionals, oh what fun]
  • Science [ 1st experiment: Set a desk on fire :) ]
  • Spanish[ Espanol to others]

Our typical school day is pretty rudimentary- 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th period. We are just like all of the other schools, same subjects and everything.

I hope you enjoyed looking at my post, so come back next week for my week 4 project! ^^

*Note- Please do not set you, your desk, or any other materials on fire. It’s not smart dude!!!

Question #1: “How does this avatar represent you?” As most of you are aware, Halloween is coming up. Now Halloween is Number 1 on my Top 5 Holidays List. Who doesn’t like Trick-or-Treating, bobbing for apples, and watching horror movies all night long? Bats are a common symbol for Halloween, flying through the air, or being a familiar for a wizard or witch. My avatar is part human and part Rodrigues Fruit Bat. I myself find bats to be very interesting creatures of the night. Some facts you might like to know are that bats

  • *   The world’s smallest mammal is the bumblebee bat of Thailand which weighs about as much as a dime.
  • *   Bats are nocturnal and hang upside down during the day time when they are roosting.
  • *   Bats have existed on the Earth for at least fifty-million years.

I made my awesome creation at www.buildyourwildself.com. If you go there, you can make tons of wacky mutants! That’s all for now and can’t wait for the Week 3 Project! ^^

Question #1: “Why did you choose this theme?” I chose the Mandigo theme because of its mysterious smoky aspect. With its gentle edges and wavy header, I just had to pick it. It’s background matched perfectly with my wolfish header that’s no lie, really it is a wolf. Mandigo theme also comes packed with a couple of colour themes to choose from. For example solar red, citrus orange, and grassy green, just to name a few. Let’s just say that I could fit into this theme like a pair of fuzzy socks.

Question #2: “Have you looked at some others?” Of course! I check went and checked out all 72 of them before I went and picked Mandigo. I also went and took a view of what my classmates chose. A little surprised by some of them, but that’s okay ^^.

Question #3: “What were some good or bad points?” Honestly, this seems to be one of the best themes on here. Of course I can’t change the edges on the border, but who would want to?

“Everybody knows that dinosaurs go rawr! ^^” Is a completely true statement. I wanted to laugh out loud( lol ) every time I saw my page. Laughter is the best medicine. Dinosaurs don’t go quack or moo, but they go rawr! ^^
